The Vice President of Human Resources will provide high-level leadership for Company HR operations. This role will also develop and implement short and long-range plans to meet strategic organizational goals for culture and talent.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Culture/Organizational Development

  • Takes lead in helping to establish and advance strategic plan goals related to organizational culture, cohesion, communication (to include staff meetings)
  • Takes lead responsibility for advancing internal DEIA goals (recruitment, training, and retention); Oversees the IDEA Team; collaborates with MT members; monitors and analyzes progress toward organizational goals
  • Assists with process improvement and staff time optimization
  • Operational issues such as office space optimization, health & safety, etc – especially post-COVID
  • Utilizes tools to monitor employee satisfaction levels; develops programming to improve employee satisfaction
  • Contributes to professional development within the conservation community as appropriate

Talent Management and Development

  • Oversees an Onboarding program for new staff that evolves to address staffing trends.
  • Develops programs to encourage employee retention; uses analytics and metrics to track success, guides managers in implementation of retention programs
  • Long term talent management and professional development (meeting succession planning and diversity goals)
  • Design a performance management system to meet talent management goals
  • Performance Improvement, discipline and termination
  • Oversees the design and refresh of job descriptions to ensure consistency
  • Assists members of the management team in exploring creative ways to meet productivity needs.
  • Oversees the development of internship programs to meet organizational goals for talent development and diversity

HR Policy Development and Education

  • Develops and maintains legally compliant human resource policies
  • Monitors the Employee Handbook for needed change, oversees updates

Employee Benefits and Compensation

  • Oversees the maintenance of a cost-effective, comprehensive benefits program that meets organizational goals and contributes to staff satisfaction and well-being.
  • Monitors national trends in non-profit benefits offerings to maintain competitive benefits for staff
  • With the Management Team, develops compensation goals that meet organizational budgetary constraints and meet needs for retention and recognition
  • Monitors applicable non-profit and for-profit compensation trends to maintain a competitive compensation program that also meets Company budgetary constraints
  • Maintains relationship with retirement plan advisor

Recruitment, Selection, and Orientation

  • Oversees organizational recruiting processes
  • Oversees the development of sources and relationships designed to meet organizational talent goals
  • Develops a program that advances organizational goals to achieve greater diversity in the applicant pool and thus the staff
  • Performs high-level recruiting, with assistance as requested


  • Develops and manages the annual Human Resources budget in coordination with the VP of Finance


  • Oversees compliance with safety practices and the Certified Workplace Safety Committee



  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience and over 5 years of experience leading or managing an HR team
  • A Bachelor’s Degree highly desirable, advanced degree a plus
  • HR Certifications highly desirable
  • Experience creating and implementing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives
  • Experience working with and advising leaders all across an organization
  • Must be well-versed in HR policy and employment law
  • Experience selecting and implementing an HR System highly desirable
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically
