Job Description

We are looking for an associate scientist who has experience in mammalian cell culture and viral infections. The candidate will work in the Cell and Viral Process Development group in Laboratory Sciences responsible for vaccine testing. They will be responsible for supporting projects, specifically developing and validating robust cellular and viral growth processes for transfer into a manufacturing setting. They will be required to maintain appropriate GLP documentation in support of global regulatory submissions for vaccine licensure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and preparation of mammalian cell culture stocks to support process development experiments.
  • Perform viral infection experiments in a BL-2 setting.
  • Support the set-up and running cell culture and virology assays.
  • Carry out analytical assay support by running samples for media analysis and cell counting.
  • Maintain a research laboratory notebook to document all lab-based work, write basic study reports and delivery memos and assist Process team members with more complicated report writing.
  • Order and stock laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain general laboratory equipment.
  • Work with multiple scientists within the group to effectively schedule work. Be flexible to work with other groups in if workloads so require.
  • Perform tissue culture based assays on live vaccine products, process intermediates, and related experimental samples
  • Prepare solutions and culture media
  • Maintain multiple mammalian cell lines
  • Good trouble shooting ability with cell lines
  • Maintain records and test results following good manufacturing practices (GMP)
  • Work independently and efficiently
  • Document work clearly and perform tests accurately
  • Communicate effectively with client staff members
  • Perform assay monitoring and trending

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology or related science
  • At least 3 years related laboratory experience including aseptic and mammalian cell culture techniques is a must have
  • Microbiology or Virology Background
  • General laboratory skills, experience with pipettes, and experience with automation
  • Experience using formulas and linking spreadsheets in Excel
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
  • Educational background: Course work and laboratory experience in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or related disciplines.
  • Training in aseptic techniques and cell culture.
  • Familiarity in working with BL-2 pathogens and the use of appropriate PPE.
  • Highly computer literate. Capable of quickly learning and adapting to new computer programs.
  • Capable of interpreting and carrying-out experimental design and protocols.
  • Individual must have good organizational skills and attention to detail. Individual should be highly motivated, must be a team player, and capable of working with minimal oversight in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Additional Information

This position is Full-Time,Monday - Friday, 8a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with overtime as needed and the potential for some off shift hours as dependent on project needs.Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of West Point, PAare encouraged to apply.
