Vice President, Finance & Accounting
Greater Philadelphia YMCA seeks an action-oriented, systems thinker with leadership experience as well as project management acumen as their inaugural Vice President of Finance & Accounting. They will carry out hands-on operational tasks and, under the direction of the CFO and in collaboration with the Controller, plan and direct the accounting & finance operations of the organization. They are directly responsible for creating, implementing, maintaining, and leading effective financial controls. They will maintain and continually improve a financial operations system that reflects and accommodates financial complexity and accuracy in support of the development and management of various activities including cash flow analysis, internal financials, budgets, and production of various analyses.

Candidate Profile :
The optimal candidate has an accounting background, and is energized by and has leadership experience in finance and accounting systems, processes, and best practices across a wide spectrum of business applications, such as payroll, insurance, multilocation retail sales or fee-for-service model, leasing/real estate, and/or membership/subscription-based services. They are adept at implementing and utilizing a robust software ecosystem, in a hands-on way, to provide solutions in support of a dynamic and multifaceted organization. Previous experience with cash flow forecasting, budgeting, implementing financial controls, and financial compliance, as related to filings, payroll, etc., is required; however, experience in the nonprofit industry is not.
The Vice President of Finance & Accounting will be poised to participate in the creation of a department that is evolving to meet the demands of new business models. They demonstrate the acumen to translate financial information and analysis for consumption and decision-making by their peer leaders. They engage with internal and external stakeholders with a customer service orientation. They navigate effective problem-solving in a steady, positive way and are a self-motivated learner who thrives on being a catalyst in the development of consistent growth of high performing teams.
Professional Characteristics :
1. Bachelors degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting
2. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Account (CMA) license
3. 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and a minimum of 3 years as a Controller
4. Non-profit accounting or public accounting experience
5. Skilled in managing accounting software (NetSuite preferred)
6. Skilled in database management and other systems (Salesforce preferred)
7. Skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite with advanced knowledge of the utilization of Microsoft Excel
8. Experience with software system implementations and project management software
9. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections in alignment with US GAAP and other financial regulations
10. Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, cost, and capital analysis
11. Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state regulations
Organizational Information :
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is a peer of the Controller. The internal financial organization currently consists of a Senior Accountant and teams focused on A/P, purchasing, payroll, and administrative support.

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA has an annual budget of approximately $1.1M, comprised of revenue from various for-fee services as well as philanthropic funding sources. Approximate percentages of funding follow - 90% membership, childcare & camp fees, 5% grants, and 5% donations.
