The primary purpose of the Transportation Manager is to manage the transportation process and to ensure the availability of transport vehicles in accordance with the defined objectives of freight cost and service level for the internal and external customers, and in compliance with procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the operational activities of the Transport Office and Shipping Office to ensure departmental objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Implement and maintain operational processes and procedures defined at Group level for transport and shipping reporting on performance and initiating improvements for operations.
Ensure the availability of transport vehicles to deliver the goods to all the defined internal departments, including shuttle service for the local warehouses.
Ensure the delivery of the goods to external Customers in accordance with the assigned objectives of cost-effectiveness and service level.
Manage the negotiations with logistic suppliers and research new suppliers according to the Group’s guidelines.
Manage the suppliers’ pre-qualification process.
Manage the assessment of the logistic service providers, including shuttle services, according to the Group’s guidelines through a systematic analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
Ensure the monitoring of the monthly data of distribution logistics such as the transportation costs for shuttle services, intra-Plant transfers and Customer’s deliveries, to maximize transport efficiency and suggesting improvement solutions.
Ensure the achievement of the service level required by Customers, the periodical monitoring and the suggestion of solutions to improve it, according to the indications provided by the Marketing & Sales organization.
Manage the relationships with the Customers’ logistic departments and Managers.
Support the Marketing & Sales organization in the negotiations with Customers related to transportation and cost saving opportunities.
Elaborate the proposal for the distribution costs budget in cooperation with the Planning organization.
Recommend and coordinate the study of new projects and new proposals (transportation modes, palletizing, distribution, storage) in cooperation with the other internal departments of the Supply Chain, the Group Supply Chain Dept, the Technical and the Operating Departments.
