Senior Designer - RIG Creative

Vanguard isn’t your typical investment group. And we’re not your typical marketing team.
We’re a newly formed in-house agency full of energy, ideas and talent…And we’re looking for more. With new projects coming our way, we need to expand our base and hire a Senior Graphic Designer to join the team.
As the Senior Graphic Designer, you’ll engage in the full creative process to bring life to our marketing strategies and goals. You’ll balance hands-on day-to-day design work with mentoring and oversight of a team of graphic designers, working closely with our Associate Creative Director along the way.

A typical day for you may include brainstorming with strategists to develop a new campaign look and feel, collaborating with writers to fuse the visuals with messaging, reviewing work of junior designers, liaising with project teams to coordinate an upcoming initiative, developing concepts and designs for a new microsite and exploring how our brand system translates into a myriad of digital and print media. A less typical day may include creating unique brand expressions for specific initiatives, overseeing development of new creative templates and style guides, lending your talents to our website or multimedia teams or researching production techniques for a special packaging project.

In this role you will...

  • You’re a strategic designer with a human-centric approach — every component of your designs is intentional, relevant to the overall vision, goals of the project, considers the audience(s) experience first and foremost.

  • You know your way around brand systems, standards and guidelines and know how to translate them into effective and creative applications and expressions.

  • You’re really good at collaborating and enjoy being part of a team mixed with a strong ability to be self-motivated and directed.

  • You’re a leader by nature, comfortable at delegating design tasks and providing support for junior level design team members.

  • You know how to listen to design needs, generate original and thoughtful ideas and communicate them to clients and other members of the team.

  • You wholeheartedly believe that experience design is about the entire experience from opening a letter to scrolling an app to opening a package.

  • You’ve got a good attitude, are open to direction and truly love what you do.

  • You’re well versed in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign and Sketch and InVision, with some familiarity in Adobe Experience Manager.

  • You’ve got about 5-8 years practical design experience, ideally at an agency, firm or studio.

A design experience that delivers

With over 6,000 crew across the United States, Vanguard's Retail Investor Group (RIG) division serves close to 7 million clients. With over $1.8 trillion in assets under management, RIG offers investors a variety of advice solutions, educational tools, and financial products such as: ETFs, brokerage account trading services, mutual funds, education savings, and annuities.

What it takes

  • Five years related work experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graphic Design or other creative arts degree preferred.

Special Factor:

Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.

About Vanguard

We are Vanguard. Together, we’re changing the way the world invests.

For us, investing doesn’t just end in value. It starts with values. Because when you invest with courage, when you invest with clarity, and when you invest with care, you can get so much more in return. We invest with purpose – and that’s how we’ve become a global market leader. Here, we grow by doing the right thing for the people we serve. And so can you.

We want to make success accessible to everyone. This is our opportunity. Let’s make it count.

Inclusion Statement

Vanguard’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion is firmly rooted in our culture. Every decision we make to best serve our clients, crew (internally employees are referred to as crew), and communities is guided by one simple statement: “Do the right thing.”

We believe that a critical aspect of doing the right thing requires building diverse, inclusive, and highly effective teams of individuals who are as unique as the clients they serve. We empower our crew to contribute their distinct strengths to achieving Vanguard’s core purpose through our values.

When all crew members feel valued and included, our ability to collaborate and innovate is amplified, and we are united in delivering on Vanguard's core purpose.

Our core purpose: To take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.

Future of Work

During the pandemic, we transitioned to a work from home model for the majority of our crew and we continue to interview, hire, and on-board future crew remotely.

As we have developed the path forward, we have taken a thoughtful approach that both maximizes the advantages of working remotely and the many benefits of coming together and collaborating in a shared workspace. We believe that in-person interactions among our crew are important for preserving our unique culture and advantageous for the personal development of our crew.

When our Crew return to the office, many will work in our hybrid model. A smaller proportion of our crew will operate in the Work from Home work model (for example, field sales crew); or in the Work from Office model (for example, portfolio managers).

The working model that your role falls into will be communicated to you in the interview process – please do ask if you are unsure. We encourage you to make the decision regarding your job interview and offer knowing which model your role will fall into. We will test and learn as our ways of working evolve and will continue to evaluate working models along the way.
