What We're Looking For

This position will help HNTB leadership develop relationships with DOT leaders that are invested in rail / transit operations and who are interested in working with Amtrak to expand intercity passenger rail services. The position will also facilitate meetings with Amtrak and engage within HNTB in strategic planning initiatives. From time to time the position will meet with elected leaders who are supportive of transportation initiatives and who shape transportation policy, conduct discovery, support our clients legislative agendas, and seek to become a trusted advisor to government officials at the federal, state and local level.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Working with Amtraks client service leader and team to identify, understand and pursue rail related expansion services across the nation.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, History or equivalent experience in rail related government relations.

  • 15 years experience in the rail / transit industry.

  • Working knowledge of rail operations and clients on the Northeast Corridor.

  • Hands on practical Government Relations experience with rail transit and Amtrak.

  • Masters Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, History or relevant degree

  • Detailed understanding of the federal legislative process

  • Detailed understanding of the federal administrative processes that govern federal transportation programs

  • Understanding of HNTBs client organizations

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Administer all aspects of HNTB PAC. Coordinate communication with PAC members. Schedule and organize firmwide PAC events. Work with PAC Champions at office-level events. Organize and facilitate twice yearly PAC Board meetings including preparation of Board materials. Direct design and maintenance of PAC website. Direct production of PAC Annual report. Support corporate and PAC political contribution approval process. Compile election results reports for office holders and transportation-related ballot measures. Lead and coordinate regular calls with outside PAC consultant and legal counsel to achieve PAC goals as established by PAC Board. Ensure compliance of PAC communications with legal requirements in coordination with outside PAC counsel and consultant. Maintain comprehensive database of corporate political giving.

  • Design and implement education program on political compliance issues, including lobby registration, lobby disclosure, gift-giving, and campaign finance. Schedule training session. Develop content in coordination with outside counsel and government relations leadership. Track and report progress. Suggest process improvements.

  • Support firms government relations function with other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, History or relevant degree.

  • 5 years of experience as a staff member to elected official/PAC administration/ political compliance issue awareness.
