Job Summary

The Associate Director of Security Technology reports to the Deputy Chief of Police, Operations for the Department of Public Safety and provides management for the University's security technology infrastructure, operation and administration. This person works with University administrators to provide coordinated safety and security services. The Associate. Director is responsible for the delivery of quality assurance and customer satisfaction. The Associate Director will be responsible for bench marking the best in class security and technology services. This person is responsible for the performance management of the Department's security technology contractors and supervision of Operations personnel as determined by the Deputy Chief of Police, Operations.

Essential Functions

    Maintain operational readiness of all security central monitoring systems, infrastructure, communication network, electronic field sensors and devices.
    Administer a hardware and software impairment process. Coordinate resources to identify cause of systems problems and facilitate repairs. Process work orders, collect statistical data, maintain historical records and provide follow up services to assure customer satisfaction.
    Serve and assist schools and centers with management and operations of their security systems. Provide instructions, event transactions and alarm reports, and guidance for managing facility access privileges.
    Review and approve security project proposals, specifications, drawings and quotations. Represent Public Safety at security installation projects and insures that university security construction/installation standards and customer's needs are addressed in accordance to Public Safety quality assurance standards.
    Participate in the start-up process for all new security systems installations. Oversee the inspection and functional testing for the operating order of all security installations. Ensure all required aspects of the start-up process are completed prior to system activation.
    Oversee security project processes, progress, costs, and quality control and provide timely security project status reports to superiors on a regular basis.
    Ensure compliance with public safety security standards, policies and procedures. Investigate violations and takes appropriate corrective action. Investigate, mediate and respond to problems and disputes between university entities and security contractors
    Provide supervision for the DPS Operations personnel as determined by the Deputy Chief of Police, Operations.
    Provide 24-hour emergency and non-emergency support to dispatch supervisors and security monitoring personnel.
    Continually analyze processes. Appraise and report the performance of equipment and all operational issues to the Deputy Chief of Police, Operations
    Keep current with relevant new technology; advise the Deputy Chief of Police, Operations on security technology matters and provide guidance and oversight on security technology matters.
    Provide asset management of the security technology inventories.
    Comply with and ensure compliance with all DPS policies procedures and standards, including strict adherence to all proprietary and confidential information.
    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

      Bachelor’s Degree
      A minimum of 3 years professional experience

      Preferred Qualifications

        3 to 5 years in project coordination and security system design experience along with 3 to 5 years of managerial experience.
        Experience in contract management.
        Strong customer service focus.
        Must have a thorough knowledge of security systems, alarm devices, CCTV systems, Emergency Phone applications, as well as system configurations and design.
        Must possess excellent communication and listening skills. This person should be "people oriented" and have fine-tuned problem solving and decision making skills.
        An understanding of higher education environments is preferred.
        Must be effective in representing the Division of Public Safety in working as a member of the management team, with University customers and potentially with outside business partners.
