Internet Essentials is Comcast's signature community investment initiative designed to help close the digital divide through affordable broadband service, low-cost computers, and digital literacy training offered online, in print and in person. The Research Co-Op will be responsible for assisting the research team in better understanding and defining trends in digital inclusion and digital equity. This role will also support various data, research, strategic communications, and data visualization functions as needed.
+ Works with the research team to read in data files from publicly available sources, compile data sets, analyze publicly available data, conduct inferential statistics, and create data visualizations;
+ Work with the Internet Essentials team to clean, format, and visualize internal data to inform business and programmatic decisions;
+ Supports the Director of Research & Policy and other members of the research team in querying databases and constructing datasets to answer programmatic questions;
+ Supports ongoing quantitative and qualitative research projects by reviewing draft reports prior to release.
+ Supports the broader Internet Essentials team in generating compelling data visualizations (experience not required, but a desire to learn is!);
+ Research alternative sources of data to answer questions aligned with program priorities.
+ Conduct literature reviews and prepare briefing memos on issues of public policy importance.
+ Proficient to advanced skills in statistical software, such as SPSS, Stata, R, or Python;
+ Experience relational databases (preferred);
+ Experience analyzing data and building dashboards in Tableau (preferred);
+ Ability to write, create, and assemble reports, briefs, and decks to communicate complex ideas to non-technical audiences;
+ Ability to work both independently and in groups; and
+ A research-related undergraduate or graduate course of study or previous research experience (preferred).
