About Play On Philly
Play On Philly (POP) is a non-profit organization that provides daily, after-school music instruction to over 300 K-12 students. We work in communities that historically have had little or no access to formal music education. We are seeking Instrument Specialists for programming at Roman Catholic High School.
About Roman Catholic Preparatory School
Founded by Thomas E. Cahill in 1890 as the first free Diocesan Catholic high school for boys in the nation, Roman Catholic continues its tradition of excellence as it strives to offer a comprehensive academic curriculum within a disciplined Catholic environment. Enriched by its cultural, racial, and religious diversity, Roman Catholic provides a community where each young man can learn to appreciate and respect the uniqueness of others, while becoming a man of personal integrity. Roman Catholic High School strives to bring the Gospel values of Jesus Christ to its students, while forming a Catholic community which embodies the Christian spirit of service to all.
The Classroom Instrumental Specialist (CIS) position works with beginning high school students who have varying degrees of musical skills. This position works at Play On Philly's Roman Catholic Music Center to offer instructional support to the in-house music teacher. CISs will offer specialized instruction to students, helping to get students started on instruments as well as providing instruction to students who already have a few years of experience. These specialists work collaboratively and independently to ensure students are making steady progress on their instruments, music literacy skills, and repertoire. CISs manage their classes to create a safe, welcoming, and rigorous environment. All POP instructors are responsible for encouraging students to adhere to the POP rules and guidelines for student citizenship.
This role is supervised by the on-site music teacher and works in partnership with that teacher's needs and requirements for the greater program. We are looking for lifelong learners and collaboratively natured individuals who enjoy and have experience working with high-schoolers, are creative, and can problem-solve and multi-task.
