Salary: up to $90,000 with bonus and benefits

We are seeking a Group Sales Manager for our 250+ room upscale hotel in Philadelphia, PA.

The Group Sales Manager position will have a primary focus on developing and facilitating group business within the Philadelphia market, primarily from non-Member accounts. The purpose of this role is to plan, solicit, and exceed group revenue goals, and expand relationships and networks to ensure that all group sales opportunities are realized.

The Group Sales Manager position requires excellent business development and selling skills, strong communication ability, and an understanding of the Philadelphia market. The Group Sales Manager will work in tandem with the Manager, Membership & Sales to increase the hotel’s share within the Philadelphia, PA market. Managing relationships within the CVB will also secure inclusion in key city-wide events.

Group Sales Manager Essential Job Function:

  • Establish group client base of individuals, organizations, associations, and social business through direct outside selling to ensure revenue goals have been met or exceeded
  • Adhere to the hotel’s sales guidelines and book profitable business based on needs and times
  • Create, implement, and monitor short and long-range sales strategies for group segments to optimize revenue and profitability
  • Work with Revenue Management to effectively utilize hotel’s Group Rooms Control (GRC) to record group opportunities, measure YOY performance, and determine need periods
  • Negotiate and execute group contracts that meet or exceed hotel revenue and incentive goals
  • Provide competitive market intelligence in group segments
  • Arrange and conduct special events, hotel tours, and off-site presentations for potential clients
  • Maintain client files and update information daily in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures
  • The group sales manager prepares group resumes to ensure effective written communication to the hotel operations team regarding onsite groups and events
  • Follow up with clients regularly during stay and after departure to ensure satisfaction and secure future bookings
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Identify operational problems that impact the effectiveness of overall sales performance and work closely with appropriate Departments on solutions
  • Cultivate collaborative, mutually supportive relationships with and among customers, as well as the hotel community, sales office, and hotel staff
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments
  • Participate in local networking organizations, community, and industry events while representing the Hotel in a professional manner
  • Adhere to hotel requirements for guest/team member accidents or injuries and in emergency situations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Group Sales Manager Position Details:

  • Possesses a strong understanding of the Philadelphia market with proven experience in maintaining and building relationships within the group market
  • Solicits, books, manages and services group opportunities from new and existing accounts
  • Increases year over year group bookings with focus on uncovering new business for the Philadelphia hotel
  • The Group Sales Manager negotiates and completes RFP’s and group agreements
  • Assists in developing and implementing sales plans and activities
  • Works closely with Member Services on rooming lists and group booking procedures
  • The Group Sales Manager supports accounting in the collection of initial deposits for signed groups
  • Manages the handover of the signed group to the hotel operations team
  • Is an ambitious, action-oriented member of the sales team and executes all agreed-upon action steps
  • Participates & demonstrates initiative in on-going process improvements
  • The Group Sales Manager complies with company sales reporting, office, and system standards
  • Acts as a resource for all on-property hotel team members
  • Provides feedback to leadership on changing market conditions, including trends in competition

Qualifications for Group Sales Manager:

  • 5+ years of successful experience in proactive hotel group sales and the ability to effectively close group business; and a 4-year college degree
  • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to communicate well with all levels within and outside the organization, and be able to problem-solve with team members and guests
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Phone & direct sales experience; lead discovery, qualifying prospects, and closure proficiency are essential
  • Ability to work independently and is a self-starter
  • Effective analytical & problem-solving skills. Ability to make decisions and/or mediate regarding account challenges or concerns
  • Polished professional presentation with warm, confident, and hospitable personality
  • Proficient with common computer software programs, including Salesforce, Opera, and ivy
  • Proficient in English language with excellent writing skills (grammar/punctuation/spelling)
  • Must be willing work varied hours
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license
