Position Overview: 

The Director for Education and Training is responsible for developing programs offering innovative training for future health care professionals, supporting initiatives or programs offering innovative professional development or training for current health professionals, coordinating consumer-led programs offering innovative training or curricula and innovating education and training initiatives with technology.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the creation and implementation of a system-wide vision for training and workforce development that supports the DBHIDS vision, mission and values
  • Ensure quality and continuity around education and training offered to community members, providers staff and DBHIDS employees by aligning, coordinating and integrating DBHIDS education and training efforts by partnering with HR entities, CBH Provider Training & Development, Mental Health First Aid, EPIC and Multicultural Affairs
  • Support and partner with divisions and units across DBHIDS to address emerging training needs through workforce consultation, identifying performance gaps, needs assessment, mapping of training frameworks, dissemination of resources, training development, proposal writing, and contracting with external trainers. Ensure alignment, coordination and integration around all education and training efforts across the organization
  • Provide oversight, direction and support to the Behavioral Health Training & Education Network (BHTEN) to support organizational responsiveness to system needs
  • Build and maintain a strong functional Education and Training team through effective recruiting, training, performance management, coaching, team building and succession planning
  • Coordinate the Training Directors’ Collaborative which fosters partnerships with community organizations and provider agencies to enhance system capacity to respond to our workforce’s education and training needs
  • Provide Strategic Planning support and facilitation to DBHIDS units and/or initiatives that need support in identifying priorities, developing a strategic plan and facilitating change
  • Foster partnerships with City of Philadelphia Departments, including the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Office of Domestic Violence Strategies, Law Department, Department of Public Health and others to address DBHIDS, provider and community training needs and support efficiency in the utilization of resources
  • Implement the DBHIDS Learning Hub, a Learning Management System (LMS) for DBHIDS employees (900) and the provider network (15,000) to support training, compliance and tracking needs across the system
  • Build capacity within our network to develop e-learning by establishing standards and processes, teaching Introduction to Instructional Design, and coaching Subject Matter Experts
  • Oversee the Behavioral Health Apprenticeship program in partnership with 1199C Training Fund and Philadelphia Works

Position Requirements: 

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Work or related field
  • License/Certification: N/A
  • Relevant Work Experience:  Minimum of 4 years post-graduate experience in assessment and/or counseling within an adult or child/adolescent behavioral health treatment setting
  • Bicultural/bilingual preferred
  • Skills:
  • Proven expertise in the design, development and facilitation of training
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to write and generate high level reports and presentation
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
