Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of Licensing for Penn's Perelman School of Medicine, this individual will lead the identification, evaluation, protection, marketing and licensing of technologies with commercial potential resulting from the activities of faculty, staff and students in the Perelman School of Medicine.

Job Description

The Assistant/Associate Director, Technology Licensing will develop strong working relationships with investigators in the aforementioned school and support all activities associated with technology commercialization, including but not limited to: facilitating the establishment of research collaborations and alliances with industry; negotiating option and license agreements for intellectual property and tangible materials with established and start-up companies, and managing company relationships post-agreement execution; providing excellent customer and client service in all areas of effort and interaction.

Responsibilities Include:

* Develop commercialization strategies for technologies; perform marketing analysis to include identification of, and marketing to, targeted commercial partners and investors; prepare non-confidential marketing materials for assigned technologies, with the assistance of the Marketing, Communications and Programs group within PCI, as appropriate.

* Develop strong working relationships with faculty and student investigators of targeted departments in the School of Medicine. Meet with the investigators regularly to discuss research findings and assist in the identification of technologies with commercial potential; act as a primary contact of PCI for assigned faculty and / or department and facilitate the implementation of CDAs, MTAs, SRAs, collaboration agreements and the like, to ensure such matters are processed by PCI in an efficient and timely manner.

* Evaluate all assigned technology disclosures to analyze their commercial potential and recommend well-articulated and diligently justified "go/no-go" decisions regarding pursuing patent protection at weekly commercialization meetings.

* Identify and actively engage with potential industry partners and investors; perform due diligence on potential commercial partners; perform technology valuation; initiate and lead the construction and negotiation of licensing and option agreements; assist with research-related agreements with commercial entities (including sponsored research agreements), as required; be responsive to the needs of key internal and external PCI clients; manage relationships with company post-agreement execution.

* Organize and participate in outreach activities of the Licensing Team by helping to organize and attend seminars and events.

Qualifications

Ph.D. required in a life science field, or equivalent doctoral degree, plus either 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience for the Assistant Director position or +5 years for the Associate Director position; understanding of research environment, preferably in higher education; excellent customer service skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.

$90,860.00 - $142,844.66

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
